Akamai Adventure Tours & Travel is owned and managed by Tyler and Hayley Ford, a husband and wife team of 23 years and counting. They bring a combined 45 years of experience as adventure guides of many recreational activities. The couple met in 1999 when both were camp directors for Camp Timberline of Kama ‘aina Kids on the Island of Oahu. Prior to their positions at Camp Timberline, both Hayley and Tyler had already accumulated a wide breadth of guiding experience in the outdoor recreation industry all over the Mountain Western states. During their time working on Oahu, Hayley and Tyler not only fell in love with each other, but also with the Hawaiian culture, and the Native Hawaiians (Kānaka Maoli)
Hayley and Tyler became adventure guides in Alaska, eventually traveling to Idaho and Wyoming where they were whitewater rafting guides in the summer and snow sports school instructors in the winter.
In 2007, they knew it was time to move “back” home to Hawaii (the Big Island) to raise their O’hana (family). Since then, they have worked with some of Hawaii’s premier guide tour companies, adding to their extensive knowledge of the island’s history, geology, culture, and environment.
